Portland indie rockers The Thermals hit Lido, headlining a pretty cool gig supported by The Coathangers, also from the US.
The Thermals are one of those bands that people love to ask why they’re not bigger than they are. Which is fair, they are really good and there’s not many people at the pub table on Friday night who’re going to know who you’re talking about. They’re signed to Kill Rock Stars, which is already pretty braggable and before that Sub Pop, which is obviously even more so. Pitchfork likes them and so does the Onion AV Club, both sites possessing a modicum of cool no matter how broad their audience might be. Why aren’t they bigger? Who knows, they’ve done heaps of stuff, enough to get a bit better known, at least.
